How I (Naturally) Killed a Yeast Overgrowth and Treated My Leaky Gut

I'm a massive believer that gut health = whole health. And I'll tell anyone who will listen. And this is a big reason why. A huge part of my healing has been restoring damage done to my gut by years of eating gluten and unknowingly having celiac disease.

So a super brief overview of the gut: it's pretty dang important. Hippocrates said years and years (and years) ago that “all disease begins in the gut” and we're finding more and more just how right he was. Your gut (specifically GALT, gut-associate lymphoid tissue) houses 70% of your immune system and of course the intestinal cells that break down food: where nutrients are absorbed and toxins are (supposed to be) removed. It is composed of about a tennis court worth of lining all scrunched together to soak up as many nutrients as possible. I spent an entire semester studying the biochemical presses our body uses to break down our food, so I'll spare you the textbooks of organic chemistry and tell you it's incredibly complex. There is SO much our organs do to convert our food to usable fuel, it's truthfully just beautiful. But we can't do it all on our own. We actually rely on billions of bacteria cells to help us. Yes, billions. You literally have more bacteria cells in your gut than you have of your own body cells in your WHOLE body. And these bacteria are there to help us with our digestion. There are a lot of fibers and chemicals that our intestinal cells can't break down on their own, so the bacteria help out in exchange for a warm and cozy place to live.

What Is A Yeast Overgrowth?

Very simply, a yeast overgrowth happens when your bad bacteria outnumber your good. Candida albicans, the most common fungus present in your mouth and gut, can be productive in small amounts, but when it is overgrown, it breaks through your intestinal wall and leaks into the bloodstream. This allows toxins your gut is supposed to eliminate to circle back into your system (and even without a nutrition degree, I'm sure you can guess that is not exactly a good thing.) This spillage of toxins into the blood is called leaky gut, and it is the root of so many of our health problems.

What Causes A Yeast Overgrowth aka Candida Overgrowth?

Lots of things!

Antibiotics can cause candida. Because they don't just kill the bad bacteria of a skin rash or an ear infection, they literally kill all bacteria in your body – even the good stuff that your gut needs to function properly. And by killing off the good stuff, it allows the bad to grow in its place.

The birth control pill can cause it, too! Really any form of hormonal treatment. With a yeast overgrowth, the candida actually attaches itself to estrogen, so any time you're adding estrogen to your body (or messing with any form of your natural estrogen/progesterone levels), you're increasing your risk for overgrowth. A recent study says you're doubling it.

Even just stress can cause it. Stress (and its sister: lack of sleep) weakens the immune system and disrupts hormone levels, both lowering your body's natural ability to maintain a healthy bacterial balance.

But probably the biggest culprit for most of us: a high sugar / high processed starch diet. The candida feeds off of sugar (and starch because starch becomes sugar almost immediately in your body). By consuming a lot of the foods that fuel it, you're promoting its growth and it can easily start to overpopulate and throw off your microbiome flora balance.

How Do You Know You Have It?

Well to be honest, odds are that you do. Because of our diets and the disgusting amounts of sugar and refined carbohydrates loaded into everything we eat, most of us do.

You can go to the doctor and pay some good money to get a blood test for IgA, IgG, and IgM candida antibodies or do a stool or urine sample test to confirm. But I've battled this for years, and never once did a doctor think to test for these. So I've learned on my own: More often than not, if the symptoms are present, the yeast overgrowth likely is too.

You can go to a naturopath and pay for a candida test, but that will run you at least $450+ and will take weeks of your time.

Statistics show, if you have more than 3 of the below symptoms, you very likely have a dysbiosis in your gut microbiome.

What are the symptoms of too much yeast in your body?

A yeast overgrowth can cause any and all of the following symptoms:

  1. Skin infections – eczema, rosacea, acne, dermatitis
  2. Headaches and migraines
  3. Digestive issues – bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, IBS
  4. Chronic fatigue – general exhaustion or any form of adrenal fatigue
  5. Hormonal imbalances and side effects like anxiety or depression – 70% of our sertonin is produced in the gut, so a disturbance of our flora can lead to a disturbance of our happy levels
  6. Autoimmune diseases
  7. Diabetes – both autoimmune type 1 and type 2
  8. ADD or ADHD
  9. Frequent infections – ear infections, UTIs, vaginal yeast infections
  10. Food allergies, intolerances, or sensitivities – often times, we develop food sensitivities simply because leaky gut allows these food particles into our bloodstream and then they use inflammation in places they shouldn't be
  11. Thyroid conditions like Hashimoto's
  12. Joint pain and arthritis

Crazy, right? But it makes sense. With so much of our immune system and neurotransmitter production residing in our gut, it makes sense that a disturbance of its function can cause a lot of varying effects.

My own experience with a yeast overgrowth came from the perfection concoction of years of antibiotic use for chronic ear infections as a child, a decade on the birth control pill and then transitioning off without supporting my hormones, and a month of way too many starches in my diet during a European escapade (thanks Italy and all your delicious gluten free pasta and gelato). My intestines were swollen and painful to the touch, I had some serious changes to my bowel movements, and this rash I've been battling on my face got a whole lot worse. Oh and I got a yeast infection you know where. That one made it pretty dang obvious.

How Do You Get Rid of a Candida Yeast Overgrowth?

So let's get real about this for a moment. Most doctors and forms of conventional medicine will tell you the solution to a fungal infection is an antifungal drug.

And sometimes, that might be necessary. But often, it only provides temporary relief.

Because if you are not supporting your entire microbiome as a whole, the yeast overgrowth will return.

1 | Clear The Yeast

You have to not only kill the excess yeast but also clear it out of your system. You can do that with:

  • SUGAR DETOX: The first step is to kill the yeast. You don't need to remove all sugars and starches but you do want to remove all the extra processed and refined sugars and starches that inflame the candida. (I teach you the difference between helpful and unhelpful sugars and how to strike the balance without starving yourself inside Gut Glow!)
  • NATURE'S FUNGICIDES: Like apple cider vinegar and coconuts. An acidic environment is a hard one for bacteria and fungi to grow in. The acetic acid in ACV and the lauric acid from coconuts help kill any that is already established.
  • AN ANTIFUNGAL RX IF NECESSARY: This isn't my first recommendation as for most cases it's possible to clear it without one, but for stubborn cases it can be neccessary.
  • SUPPORT NATURAL DETOX: It's not enough to just kill the yeast; you've got to get it out of your system.

2 | Restore The Microbiome

You have to replenish with good bacteria to build up a strong, balanced microbiome. You can do that with:

  • PROBOTIC SUPPLEMENTS: In addition to actually killing the bad bacteria, it's important to repopulate the good ones in its place. Probiotics are the good ones. Invest in a good quality probiotic supplement. (My favorite probiotic supplement of all time is the gut shot I take every morning and I can't recommend it enough.)
  • PROBIOTIC-RICH FOODS: You can also add in other probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kombucha, etc.
  • PREBIOTIC-RICH FOODS: No, that's not a typo. PrEbiotics are the food for prObiotics. These help the establishment of the healthy probiotics. This includes resistant starches! (Download the free Yeast-Fighting Foods List for the best examples of these.)

3 | Heal The Gut Lining

You have to repair the damage done by the excess yeast. You can do that with:

  • COLLAGEN PEPTIDES: If you've followed me for any length of time, you know my obsession with collagen is real. Collagen protein powder is an amazing supplement to fight a yeast overgrowth because it helps to reestablish the gut lining and heal any damage made through leaky gut. Collagen is amazing because, as the main building block of all of our body proteins, it helps to strengthen the production of any new tissues. If you aren't already taking collagen, I highly recommend you add it in to your routine. (I recommend this collagen from Perfect Supplements because of it's heavy metal testing and manufacturing standards. You can use code MOLLIE for 10% off and if you bundle 3 you can get an extra 20% off!)
  • COLLAGEN-RICH FOODS: Like bone broth.
  • ADDITIONAL TISSUE BUILDING SUPPLEMENTS

BONUS | Digestive Enzymes

Taking enzymes basically just alleviates some stress on your gut by providing extra assistance in its processing, therefore allowing your gut to focus on healing. Get a quality digestive enzyme you can take with every meal and enjoy the enzymes packed into your morning gut shot. This is one thing that always helps clients with bloat and general digestion pain issues.

  1. Ok, so till this year I didn’t know how instrumental and important the gut is in our body. It’s amazing how the Lord so wondrously designed us to need such a fine balance of bacteria in our systems, and when something is off our bodies let us know it. Right now I’m working with a dietitian who has been helping me with some IBS issues I’ve dealt with for years. It’s actually really exciting learning about how complex my body is and how much it needs a balance of different foods and care so it can function as well as God wills.

Right now I’m using some anti-microbials to help kill off the excess of bad bacteria I have in my gut, and at the end I think she’s going to recommend taking some pro biotics.

How do you figure out that you have a yeast overgrowth? I don’t think I’ve ever had one, but I’m curious to know. 🙂

    • Mollie Mason says:

Em, I’m so glad to hear you’re working through your IBS issues. I know digestive problems can be such a nuisance. A lot of times IBS is really just a name for yeast overgrowth symptoms, so it’s definitely worth looking into! The only way to truly know is to get a test done with the doctor, but all the symptoms I listed can be signs.
Keep me posted on your IBS healing! I hope it continues to improve.

      • Sheryl says:

You are doing amazing work! Thanks for sharing your wonderful post❤️. I recently had to be prescribed antibiotics for a sinus infection, so I already knew I would get a yeast infection because I always do whenever I have to take antibiotics. Diflucan gives me a lot of relief (so happy 😊 I googled ‘Nocnd247’ and got it). What many people may not know is that antibiotics can cause other medical issues to develop while taking them, such as diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps, excessive gas, yeast infections, etc. Taking antibiotics this time resulted in me having a vaginal and anal yeast infection. I hate itching worse than being in pain!

    • Steve Smith says:

Def def def the best article I’ve read online , have leaky plus massive yeast infection ( I’m a male) and needed some direct answers because quite simply after spending thousands upon thousands with conventional medical approaches I got little to no help, not blaming just is the fact of the matter, I discovered my issues more or less by myself with the help of people like Mark Hyman and Dave Aspreys work and now this person who wrote this article, thank you v much for putting this online I’ve have found another clue to my healing , kind regards Steve Smith

    • Microbiotic says:

Thank you for providing us with this valuable information. This was worth reading. Looking forward to read more of these blog.

  2. Joy says:

Thank you for your post on how to heal leaky gut. I was fine for 2 years and then a trip to Mexico got my gut out of balance. I’m so glad that I got it under control again. What a difference. I’ll save your post for the next time. AND I’ll take along some digestive enzymes for my next trip! Thank you!!

  3. gut health is definitely a key to so many underlying issues. for me getting adequate probiotics is a big one. im so glad you were able to get the issue resolved.

  4. Abbey Sharp says:

Thanks for sharing what worked for you! Probiotics are my BFF!

  5. Rachel says:

I feel like I have a million questions about this. I have an autoimmune, inflammatory disease and would really like to get it into remission without the use of drugs. How long do you have to keep up this protocol? Do you ever get to eat fruit again? What symptoms were you experiencing prior to doing this regimen? Are the symptoms gone?

    • Mollie Mason says:

Thanks for your questions, Rachel. I have an autoimmune disease as well and healing my gut has been a HUGE part of my recovery. This protocol specifically is something I did for 14 days to truly kill the yeast, but I’ve maintained a mostly paleo diet even after (limited grains, sugars, dairy, and obviously no gluten).
I definitely don’t recommend never eating fruit again. It’s just for 14 days while you’re working to detox the yeast and reestablish healthy gut flora that you want to keep fruit super minimal to reduce overgrowth. Once you’ve established a healthy gut, you can reintroduce fruit with no problem.
I listed my symptoms during yeast overgrowth above in the article, and yes, they cleared up when I did the protocol! And I notice they creep back up if I ever eat too many of the inflammatory foods at once (a couple days off way too much sugar or grains or dairy all together).

  6. Rebecca says:

This is so interesting! Gut health is so so important! glad you were able to find ways to feel better

  7. Farrah says:

Gut health is so important! I recommend probiotics to my patients, but I’ll have to look into these other options too!

  8. Sarah says:

Gut health is so important and why I’m on top of probiotics with my family. Great information to keep in mind for the future.

    • Belma says:

Hey! Do you have a post with a meal plan you followed for 14 days during this protocol? It would help so much!!

      Thank you!

  13. So happy you found something that works for you. Gut health is so crucial!

  14. Oh wow – you had a solid game plan here. I wouldn’t have even known where to start.

  15. Amy Otte says:

Hi Mollie! First off, love your instagram. So genuine, real, creative, and helpful! That’s how I found this article 🙂

So my fiancee and I have both been having some digestive issues. I think the most likely culprit is the extended stress of engagement, along with a few of the triggers you mentioned above. Such a sweet time, but such a straining time as well, as you know! Anyway, we are considering trying this regimen to get back on track. Do you have some favorite recipes that follow the dietary guidelines you lay out in the article?

    Thanks!

    • Mollie Mason says:

Amy! You are so sweet! Thanks for the kind words and CONGRATS on your engagement. I totally understand; the 6 months before our wedding were absolutely brutal as far as stress and chaos. Definitely not prime time to take care of ourselves.
I think it’s a great idea to try this protocol! I can promise it will leave you feeling glowy and lovely before the big day.

I ate lots of salads, smoothie bowls with cauliflower and avocado and 1/2 of a frozen banana (I tried to limit my fruit intake to that) topped with nuts and seeds. Tons of eggs. Honestly most meals were salads topped with chicken or ground turkey. And my coconut chia pudding was a lifesaver for when I wanted something sweet.

I know that’s not necessarily super helpful, but I’d just say focus on tons of vegetables, lots of fat sources like avocados and nuts and seeds, and eggs/meats for protein.
Let me know if you have other questions and keep me posted on how it goes!

  16. wow! I fortunately have not had any of these types of issues and I am really not that familiar with any of this. Thanks for sharing

  17. Erica says:

Amazing!! Thank you so much!! Best post and would up on killing yeast that I have found!!

  18. Alice says:

Hi, thank you so much for sharing! I suffered from tremendous sugar cravings, felt hungry but tired all the times and could not understand why,as I eat quite healthy and 90% vegan.I decided to ask a naturopath and she diagnosed a severe candida infection, that in fact explains all my symptoms.I started to take different supplements:probiotics,GSE,enzymes and started a diet as well (no sugar, pasta, alcohol,I am Italian and love wine 🙁 ),I hope I will feel better in the next weeks…the most difficult thing is eat less,as I really feel hungry, but now I know the reason why I am feeling this way.Thank you

    • Mollie Mason says:

Oh Alice I’m so glad to hear you have a naturopath that is helping you treat this. If you’re feeling hungry, make sure you eat lots of healthy fats- avocados, olives, coconuts- they’ll help with satiation! Sending health and blessings for healing your way!

      • Alice says:

Thanks a lot: today I bought olives (that here in Tuscany are so common) and apple vinegar containing “the mother” (I thought it would be quite hard to find, but I had an idea and bang!Found it :-)),I also add coconut oil to my morning tea and milk during the day.
Can you please confirm the best way /time to drink the vinegar? Before going to sleep or in the morning?

  19. Tori says:

Hi! Thanks for all your information 🙂 I’ve seen a bunch of mixed information about whether I can have coffee during a gut reset. Do I need to cut it out too? Is a cup a day okay? And some people push cutting out milk, but others suggest kefir, which is a milk product! Thoughts?

    • Mollie Mason says:

Great questions, Tori! There’s definitely evidence on both sides. As far as the coffee goes, I kept my one cup per day and included extra of my Bulletproof Superfood creamer (which has lots of yeast-fighting ingredients). There is indeed some evidence that you should cut the coffee to kill the yeast, but for me it was worth it to just keep it to one cup. And as far as the milk, I stayed away from dairy entirely because I know I’m sensitive to it. If you are going to include dairy, make sure it’s grass-fed! But you can get all the benefits of yogurt or kefir from dairy-free alternatives like coconut yogurt or probiotic drinks or veggies. So I’d consider just using the other options or at least keeping the cultured dairy to a minimum. Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes for you.

  20. Pam says:

This info is so helpful! With RA and fibromyalgia, I need to heal my leaky gut. Past attempts at a strict diet have proved too challenging for me (or maybe because I didn’t really understand the real reason I needed to do it). You’ve provided enough information so that I have a much better understanding of yeast overgrowth and how to stop it, while keeping the over-the-top technical lingo that I don’t want/need to know out of it. I’m so grateful—I might actually be able to stick with the process of healing this time. Thanks for sharing your experience! I’m really hoping you’ll share your advice on how to kill sugar cravings!

    • Mollie Mason says:

Yes! I totally understand these things can be so so hard. But their healing power is amazing. I’m actually starting the protocol myself again on Saturday. Stay tuned on instagram & subscribe to my emails for extra tips for fighting sugar cravings- I’m sure I’ll be sharing that lots!

  21. Gaby says:

Hi! Curious if you also cut out foods with small amounts of sugar (like pasta sauces or other sauces). Did you also cut out all alcohol?

    Thanks!

    • Mollie Mason says:

      Hi Gaby! Great questions!
Yes, I cut out all forms of added sugars, so I recommend checking all ingredient lists for sneaky sugars. As far as pasta sauce, I think a little natural sugar from tomatoes is ok, but I’d definitely avoid any with added sugars.
And I don’t drink alcohol much so I didn’t have to cut it, but I’d definitely recommend all alcohol cut for these 2 weeks. The body processes alcohol similarly to sugars, so it’s best just to stay away, even from the lower sugar spirits.

  22. Annette Blanks says:

I just wanted to thank you for your post. I found it on pinterest. I work for a Chiropractor and have been learning about nutrition, leaky gut, etc. It was very informative, light, and easy to understand.

Hi! I just realized I probably have been battling this for years and I have been trying to figure out why I could not lose weight. How long should I follow this strict diet plan to be cured? And also can I go back to regular foods after I am healed?

    Cheers
    Sabina

    • Mollie Mason says:

Oh Sabina, I’m so happy for you! So glad you’re taking control of your health and it’s already loving you back.
I just dissolve the potato starch in a few ounces of water and throw it back like a shot and then drink a few sips of water to get it down. It doesn’t taste amazing (the texture just feels a little weird), but it does the job. Hope that helps!

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia around 7 years ago although I’m certain I have had it much longer than that. I have suffered from sleeplessness, joint stiffness, severe pains, depression and fatigue. My neurologist prescribed duloxetin 40mg daily (Given as 20mg twice daily), although it did relieve some of the pain, I still suffered from joint stiffness and extreme fatigue. Finally, i started on Fibromyalgia herbal formula i ordered from Natural Herbal Gardens, this herbal formula did the magic! almost immediately i started usage, i started noticing a general reduction of symptoms including the very severe pains and fatigue. 9 weeks into usage, the disease has totally succumbed to this herbal treatment. The whole pains and terrible fatigue has seized and i am now able to function fully well again. (Visit www .naturalherbalgardens . com ) I’m able to get out of bed in the morning and have more energy to go about my daily activities.

Hello, and thank you so much for this valuable information. I have a question about coconut oil. I was taught that it is pure saturated fat and bad for my heart, so I should not add it to my diet, even though I need to heal my gut. Can you help me clear up my confusion on coconut oil? Thank you.

  38. Susan says:

    Dear Mollie,

I’ve been wanting & needing 2 say thankU from the bottom of my heart. I have suffered nearly 5 years with ( at times severe ) chronic loose & watery stools. I tried every brand OTC remedies known 2 man. Finally, this past September, I had enough. Also very concerned about malabsorption of nutient, supplements & medications. During my research I stumbled across your blog, describing your small intestine bacterial overgrowth diet. I want u 2 know, I gave it a try. In about 5 days, I noticed some improvement. After 2 weeks, I was back 2 being REGULAR! I was so excited. It was like a science project in my own body. No OTC remedies ! Truly amazing. I have resumed regular bowel elimination since. Also, I have included collagen, liquid at first, now gel tabs. I did include peppermint, as I learned also from several sources that was also necessary.

Today, and forever, I maintain my diet of increased acidic foods in moderation, my usual supplements & collagen daily. I am impressed with the other health benefits, as well. I’m convinced I had increased fungal growth from way 2 much sugar ( alot of Coca-Cola). I learned so much from your information. Other research supported your statements as well, so off I went.

ThankU so much. Other than my physical issues, arthritis in all, & I mean all my joints, I feel so much better. I was horrified 2 learn the risk of sepsis, secondary 2 “Leaky Gut”, I was exposing my body to.

Take Care, Be well & again … ThankU, ThankU, ThankU !!

    Sincerely,
    Susan Brewer

Hi Mollie! Did you ever get any negative symptoms from eating a paleo diet? I feel like my body has more trouble handling a keto/paleo diet than other people and i get a “low carb flu” but I still need to treat leaky guy/candida. Is there anyway around this? 🙁 Thank you!

  43. Danielle says:

Can you mix the apple cider vinegar with the potato starch so you just take one night time drink?

  44. Heather says:

This is Great!! Thank you! One thing that red flagged me though was Kamboucha – my FuncMed doc wanted me to stay away while healing my gut because the wildly fermented chains of yeast in kamboucha are unknown and to some strains may cause problems for people dealing with yeast problems fyi

  45. Meg says:

I have been dealing with this since lasr April. Would love to know some actual recipes/meal plan you made during the die off weeks. That is the hardest part for me! I do everything else you recommended in your article but struggle for those first couple weeks without any sugar (mainly fruit) Thanks!

  46. Erin Boudolf says:

Thank you for the information. Do you avoid coffee during these two weeks?

Also, do you have a premade protein powder you recommend that you have tried? I love to make smoothies, but am having a hard time finding one that agrees with my stomach. So many of them add alot of additional products.

  47. Sarah T says:

LOVE this post! I think I am going to try your protocol. I have an autoimmune disease and worked with a naturopath last year to treat SIBO and candida and felt WORLDS better. But with some unwanted work stress and iffy diet I feel like my stomach is slowly getting weaker. I want to try this to see if it can help get back on track! I am a little bit nervous to go NO carbs, when I’ve tried that in the past I felt weak and not full. Any tips or recipes?

    • Cleo says:

Make sure you get a proper amount of proteins and digestible fats in your diet, this way you will feel full for longer, and it’s a good source of energy. Just keep in mind that you can experience candida die-off symptoms in the first week, which can make you feel lethargic, but just push through it, you will feel much better after that. My Dr allowed me to have small portions of sweet potato and quinoa, as they were low GI and very beneficial for your gut. Definitely helped me at the start. Good luck!

  48. Coco says:

This is so helpful! I have some candida right now that is adding to my allergies terribly!! Do you have any advice for breakfast ideas, snacking ideas…. also did you have coffee?!!?!?

  49. Brittany says:

Hey! Would love to start the 2 week detox but not sure of 1) foods I can and should eat and, 2) how to return to a more “normal” diet. Any advice?

  50. Samantha says:

My doctor said to stay away from Apple cider vinegar with the “mother” in it, cause it’s actually a fungus.

  51. Danielle says:

I have suffered from leaky gut….and fully healed myself from leaky gut!!! I followed almost the exact routine you listed and can definitely attest to how well it works. The only other thing I added were some bee products, propolase, jelly etc which did wonders for the adrenal stress I was under! The product I used was called “bee healthy” but I’m sure there’s many good ones out there. I followed a strict paleo diet for 8 months follow and 3 years later, I’ve never had another issue. Though I am mostly a plant based eater ever since.
**im not affiliated with any products, just a satisfied customer who wants to share my success.

    • Mollie Mason says:

Thanks for sharing that, Danielle! I’m so glad to hear you’ve found successful healing through food and natural medicine. It’s an encouragement to all who come here looking for help in their desperation. Prayers to you!

  52. Amanda B says:

Hello. I had sibo many years ago after taking birth control. I recently got a iud and am having symptoms again. I am thinking I should get it taken out. Just curious on a average day what did you eat for morning, lunch and dinner? We have been doing like a paleo diet and ive almost been worse not better. I do put sugar in my fruit smoothie in the morning. Thinking I need to get the iud out and do this.

    • Mollie Mason says:

Hey Amanda, thanks for your message. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had SIBO issues return. I hope you find healing! Stay tuned because I’m going to soon be releasing an eBook for this protocol that will give a lot more help on what to eat and how to shop, etc.

  53. Ash says:

Hello, so I am so on board with everything you’re saying. I too have decided to take my life into my own hands. I’ve always had health issues but when I had my son I developed Heart failure. Well I’m not one for pills so I quit my heart regimen after a week and have tried to do things as natural as possible. 10 years later I am happy to say I cured it. My doctor told me I’m an enigma lol. I’m also a lot younger than most people who have heart attacks so I’m sure that has something to do with it. ANYWAYS I preach probiotics, PREbiotics, and ACV to everyone in my life (of course they think I’m crazy) but, I read you take 3 probiotics a day? Can I ask what count you’re taking? To me that’s insane! But, I still have a few things that I’m currently trying to cure (scalp psoriasis, migraines, hormone imbalance) which all start in the gut. Yeast is AWFUL for my body and I’m over it! So I’m taking one probiotics that has 40billion live cultures or whatever. Also, fun fact I hope you know you’re supposed to switch up your brand every 3 months you can rotate brands but definitely switch after 3 months tops to get maximum benefits.

    • Mollie Mason says:

Thanks for your message, Ash, and major kudos on so diligently pursuing healing! What an amazing feat to cure your heart failure!
I was taking probiotics 3x / day during this protocol, but I don’t do that for maintenance. Now I take my BIOHM shot every morning as my probiotic staple.

  54. Margaret says:

    Hello Molly,
You didn’t come right out and say it but you might as well have “ I believe you “ and that means everything to us that are struggling to find answers and solutions!! So thank you for the great information! To the best health ever 😁

  55. Lauren says:

In the subtitle of your article it says you can heal in 2 weeks but at some point during the article you mentioned “for the first two weeks…” making it seem like you were insinuating longer. I’m just wondering if the overall time of repair is 2 weeks, then the restore part would be possibly more time? Just wanted this cleared up and to better gauge how long this will take. I have a labor job and am also vegetarian so it makes it extremely hard to get the calories and protein I need to work not having grains and legumes. Thank you for all the great info!

    • Mollie Mason says:

Hi Lauren, great question. Depending on the severity of your gut issues, it likely will take longer than 2 weeks and will definitely take some intentional maintenance and reintroduction after the protocol. I’m working hard on a companion guide for this protocol right now that I’m hoping will be out soon. It will include really detailed help on these questions and I think it’ll be a great resource for you! Make sure you sign up for the emails so you don’t miss it when it’s live! Also what would I could do to feel full after meals since I’m still hungry from not eating starchy foods ? Thanks

Thank you so much for posting this. I’ve been having issues with this for almost 2 years. Everything you’re saying makes sense to me yet no doctors have my brought it up. So disappointing! I just wondered if coconut milk from a can
    is okay?

    • Mollie Mason says:

Hi Stacey, I’m so glad this post has been helpful for you, and I hope it helps you on your path to healing! And yes, I prefer full-fat canned coconut milk as it doesn’t have added sugars and fillers. Just make sure you look for one with only two ingredients: coconut and water.

  69. Mel says:

    Hi there,

This may be a stupid question but, what exactly is the schedule for these things? Like, should I do it all at the same time? Or do you start with the apple cider vinegar and sugar detox for a bit and then move onto the next step? I truly believe that this might be what has been plaguing me for several years and I’ve tried a few things that just didn’t really work…. I’m excited for something that feels like it might get me somewhere! I want to make sure I do it right 🙂

    • Mollie Mason says:

Hi Mel, most definitely not a stupid question! I know it can be a lot to navigate. I’m actually working on a #killtheyeast Protocol Companion Guide right now that will guide you through the whole process: what and when and how. Make sure you subscribe here so you know when it comes out!

  72. Lindsey R. says:

Hi! So, I am almost 100% that I have candida and leaky gut. My question to you is, do you know if these things cause acid reflux? I have severe acid reflux and get upper respiratory infections a lot. I’ve read with candida that that is common, I was just curious if you knew! Thank you!!!

    • Mollie Mason says:

Hi Lindsey, thanks for your message. I’m so sorry you’re struggling with these issues but I’m so glad you’ve found my content because I pray it helps you! Yes, acid reflux can absolutely be caused by leaky gut and yeast overgrowth. If you’ve struggled and not found relief, you should absolutely give the #KillTheYeast Protocol a try because I often find with clients it’s the nagging issue that, once treated, finally brings healing! I just released the Companion Guide that walks you through this process step-by-step and I know it’ll be a huge help for you. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!!

  73. Amy says:

People in my area are oblivious to the fact that shampoos that grow your hair fast (obviously with no sulfates, no parabens or DEA) are even a thing. Hair styling enthusiasts now may enjoy longer hair and have more options. Undoubtedly worth looking up.
When you’re dealing with hair loss, damaged hair, avoiding scalp disorders, hair growth, hair health at large, the same ideas come to mind.
In most cases, you want to avoid hair treatments and products that use chemicals like parabens, DEA or sulfates.

  78. Brittani says:

    Hi Mollie,
I think this was a great read. I have an autoimmune disorder and I believe leaky gut as well. My 7 year old has a gluten sensitivity and so im on a mission to help us both. Ive recently been reading about adding fiber and “food” for the good bacteria to thrive on. Im curious on how you take the potato startch? Is it like mashed potatoes? I apologize if this is a dumb question but I’ve never used this startch. Thank you!

  79. Nelly says:

Hey Mollie, Thank you so much for this helpful article. I recently did an ELISA test with my naturopath which cost me like $400 USD and I was told I had Candida, Leaky Gut and lots of food allergies, so I’ve been forced to eliminate ALL grains (even quinoa, that bad!!) which I felt was so unnecessary and over the top, and when I found your article, it just seemed like a heaven sent. If I did your candida and leaky gut program, do you believe they would help get rid of food allergies that I have? Or do you believe I should expect to work on my food allergies for 18 months+ with my naturopath? Would love to hear what you think on food allergies specifically which are not mentioned in the article and what you think of the ELISA test. Thanks!

    • Mollie Mason says:

Hi Nelly, I’m so glad you reached out! Yes, Kill The Yeast can absolutely help in clearing food allergies. I actually just talked about this in this YouTube video – how food allergies are often just a symptom of candida and leaky gut. I’ve had many program members successfully reintroduce foods after the program, because it helps address the real root cause of the sensitivity. There’s actually a flash sale on the program through midnight tonight for $100 off so it’s a great time to jump in with us! You can grab that discount here.

      • Nelly says:

Hey Mollie! Thank you so much for replying! My last 3 questions before I go ahead and purchase the Kill The Yeast program is, do you mention in the program if food allergies should be avoided for like 14 days, and then reintroduced? And does the Kill the Yeast program include information about Candida? Cuz I already know I’ve got Candida so not sure if I should get both programs (candida crash course and kill the yeast) or just the latter one. Lastly, do you believe the ELISA test is effective, because it is extremely restrictive and takes about 18 months for me to completely get rid of my food allergies as per my naturopath’s words. Would really appreciate it if you answered those questions and I will be more than happy to enroll in the program! Thanks so much!

        • Mollie Mason says:

          Hey Nelly,

If you know you have candida, you can skip the Crash Course and just go straight for Kill The Yeast – it’ll have everything you need to take action for healing!

I personally don’t use the ELISA test. It measures for antibodies against foods, and with leaky gut, those are going to pop up for nearly everything you eat as those food particles are getting into your bloodstream where they shouldn’t be and your immune system is doing what it’s supposed to do to try to clear them. By focusing on the work we do in KTY to heal that, it often resolves many of those “allergies.” It’s important to address the actual root cause (leaky gut) not just avoid the foods that are causing inflammation because of the gut leaking.

The protocol in the Kill The Yeast program naturally removes most of the bigger triggers for people, but if you have specific food allergies you can make adjustments as needed. (Again, distinguishing differences between real allergies and those immune reactions) It’s designed to be a 14-day protocol, but sometimes people might need a little longer and then a slower transition off with reintroduction of foods. That’s all laid out for you within the program.

Hope that addresses your questions but let me know if there are any others! I’m so hopeful Kill The Yeast will be a game-changer for you like it has been for so many others; I look forward to supporting you through it!

          • Nelly Seif El Nasr says:

That information helps a lot Mollie, I really appreciate it! There is one more question that I have actually. By “Again, distinguishing differences between real allergies and those immune reactions”, do you mean I will figure out what I’m truly allergic to and what is just a reaction when I begin the protocol? Or would an allergist be necessary for that? I was told by my naturopath that the only thing I should stop for life is apples, because it gave me a “systemic reaction” and I was like APPLES??! lol, I never had a visible reaction to apples in any shape or form, and that was a vague explanation. That’s my last question, if you feel I should go to an allergist to discover my real allergies after the program or how I would go about that exactly (if it’s not already in the course). I may also do a bioenergetics session for apple intolerance, hahaha. I will be purchasing this program next week when I’ve got my paycheck, I’m sure it will be worth it!

          • Mollie Mason says:

Apples, so interesting! ha I will say that is NOT a common allergy so I’ll be intrigued to see if that’s actually true for you. My general recommendation is to complete Kill The Yeast to focus on your gut and then see if you still feel you need an allergist. If your symptoms alleviate and you don’t seem to react to foods after you’ve healed the gut, you likely won’t need to waste time and money down that path. But if completing KTY still leaves you with some symptoms, that will help you know if it’s worth pursuing. Either way, you need to heal your gut.

I can’t wait to have you in the program; I’ll look for your name soon. Can’t wait to support you through it, Nelly!

  80. Nelly Seif El Nasr says:

Thanks Mollie!! I just joined KTY today but I had some questions about supplements that I sent you at hello@molliemason.space. I haven’t heard back from you from that email. As someone who lives in Canada, it’s hard to find all these supplements on the program, so that email I sent has 5 questions concerning this.

Would really appreciate it if you could answer my questions.

    • Mollie Mason says:

Hey Nelly, welcome to KTY! So thrilled to have you and hopeful for what this program will do for you.
I checked all my inboxes and I don’t see your email, so sorry about that. Will you send it to molliemasonnutrtion@gmail.com? I’m wondering if the other email is the problem.
I’ve added the 15-minute option into the call booking for you so you’ll now see that inside your portal to schedule. I’ve worked with other Canadian members so I’m happy to help with those concerns!

  81. Nelly Seif El Nasr says:

Would I be able to do a 15 minute consultation for half of the price of a 30 min consultation on the KTY platform? That is all I would need really, I’ve got my questions stacked lol.

  82. Lori says:

I have Diverticulitis and recently spent 24 hours in hospital, I am hoping that following this program will help heal my gut.
    Thanks for all the info.
